A major concern for parents of small children is how they will cope with the transition to school when they’re ready for kindergarten. Luckily, our students at The Nurturing Nest are well-prepared when they complete our Pre-K program! This program is ideal for children around four years of age and offers a great stepping stone into the beginning of a child’s academic career.

Our Pre K program is designed to support age-appropriate development, ultimately preparing each child to enter kindergarten. By balancing social-emotional skills and academic preparation, the teachers in our Pre-K class empower children to learn, grow, and thrive. The Nurturing Nest Pre-K classroom utilizes
The Creative Curriculum, a research-based early child care and education curriculum. The learning objectives of this curriculum are aligned with Connecticut’s Early Learning and Developmental Standards, and include child-directed activities that address language & literacy, math, science, social-emotional, and physical development. There is a strong focus on the children learning to spell their full name, learn their phone number and address, and identify sight words. Assessments are completed by the teachers followed by fall and spring parent teacher conferences. Our Pre K curriculum encourages and supports the love for learning and builds the foundation of academic skills needed for a lifetime of learning.
what to expect in pre-k
At The Nurturing Nest, students encounter many of their favorite components of their earlier years with us. We incorporate free play, outdoor time, centers, and more to continue to support our play-based curriculum while also introducing the students to some of the structure they can expect when they enter kindergarten. The full-time teaching staff at The Nurturing Nest has not only the training and experience to prepare children for their futures, but also follow all State of Connecticut requirements and protocols. Our schedule does not follow the Southington school system for closures/inclement weather; instead, we are able to follow our own schedule and make decisions for our students.
