Our Programs

Infants & Toddlers

Our Infant & Toddlers classroom is a safe and nurturing environment that provides a secure base, as well as opportunities for exploration. Our teachers are positive care-givers that respond promptly and sensitively to each child’s individual needs. They implement our Infant & Toddlers curriculum that provides enriching activities which expose the children to new and exciting experiences such as story time, music, art, and sensory exploration.

Our Discoverer’s classrooms provide an environment for our one year olds that stimulates each child’s need for discovery. As our toddlers make their transition, they are welcomed into a classroom offering many opportunities for discovering their interests. The schedule provides different types of learning experiences such as sensory, art, circle time, story time, fine/gross motor, and outdoor play. In the Discoverer’s classroom toddlers are beginning to develop their language skills and learning to be part of a group.

Our Explorers classroom creates an environment for our two year olds to explore, learn, and grow through hands-on play while offering a variety of physical and cognitive learning experiences. The Explorers introduces a balanced structure of group activities (music, circle time, dramatic play), snack time, free play, and outdoor play. Self-selection or “free play” is a daily part of the curriculum and allows a child the opportunity to choose which center or activity he/she participates in, prompting creative expression and development of important social skills.

Our preschool day has a mix of student lead, play-based, and teacher directed lessons and activities for our three year olds. Preschool is the stepping stone to Pre K—here they are introduced to The Creative Curriculum which allows the children to discover and explore through play with a variety of group activities, independent play, science, math, and language. The classroom schedule and layout has many opportunities for each child to practice and master their social-emotional skills and self advocation, which prepares them for entering the Pre K program.

Pre K

Our Pre K program is designed to support age-appropriate development, ultimately preparing each child to enter kindergarten. By balancing social-emotional skills and academic preparation, our teachers in our Pre K class empower children to learn, grow, and thrive. The Nurturing Nest Pre K classroom utilizes The Creative Curriculum, a research-based early child care and education curriculum. The learning objectives of this curriculum are aligned with Connecticut’s Early Learning and Developmental Standards, and include child-directed activities that address language & literacy, math, science, social-emotional, and physical development.

“Play is the highest form of research.”
